AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf meanwhile has claimed that the Togolese striker would join the Rossoneri. Arsenal are tracking Mario Gomez of Stuttgart as his replacement.

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that he is confident that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo will return to pre-season training with Manchester United. The England defender revealed that he has spoken and texted with Ronaldo, who is currently vacationing in Sardinia, but that they did not specifically talk about the Portuguese forward’s rumored move to Real Madrid.

Bolton manager Gary Megson has signed Swedish striker Johan Elmander from French club Toulouse for an undisclosed fee, which many believe to be in the range of 10 million pounds.

Spain and Real Mallorca striker Daniel Guiza has been attracting interest from Barcelona, Roma and Manchester City, according to his wife and agent Nuria Bermudez, and this has stalled his proposed move to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have gone ahead with the signing of Brazilian striker Jo, from CSKA Moscow. The fee is in the 18 million range.

Sunderland are yet to make any tangible moves in the transfer market, but have had Grant Leadbitter signing a new three-year contract.
