No more new arrivals at Milan

AC Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has confirmed that his club will not sign any more players this summer, and that star recruit Ronaldinho who signed yesterday is the last new player on the roster.

Milan, who finished fifth in last season’s Serie A, had earlier added Arsenal’s Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer, and recently brought in defender Gianluca Zambrotta from Barcelona for 8.5 million euros. Zambrotta’s Barca teammate Ronaldinho put an end to transfer speculation choosing the Rossoneri over Manchester City, despite the English club’s offer being monetarily superior.

Galliani’s statement means that Milan (might) have ended their interest in Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The Gunners had recently halved their asking price for the forward, after Milan had backed off from Arsenal’s preliminary valuation. A move for Andriy Shevchenko was also on the cards at the San Siro.

Arsenal meanwhile have played up their interest in Spain and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. Alonso has been linked with Juventus for quite some time. Arsenal are also being linked with a move for England and Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry, who they aim to snatch from under Liverpool’s noses.

“Premiership team” after Agüero

Sergio Agüero could be plying his trade in the Premiership next season, according to his agent, Jose Segui. The highly-rated Argentinian forward, who is currently at Atletico Madrid, has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe, and Manchester United were rumored to be hot on his trail.

Segui will not name which specific club has evinced interest in his client, but he has stated that it is not Chelsea. That leaves the trio of Arsenal, Liverpool and United among the suspects. With the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor looking imminent, Arsenal might have the resources to prise Aguero away from the other two.

United are still considered in the lead for the Argentine hitman, but if Fergie decides to bring Berbatov to Old Trafford, the Red Devils might not be interested in Aguero. Liverpool might decide to link him up front with his former Atletico teammate Fernando Torres, though the two did not play together that much when in Madrid.

Profile

Born in Quilmes in Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province, Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo, who turned 20 just over a month ago, came to the world’s attention with his fine performances for Independiente, for whom he scored 26 goals in 53 appearances from 2003 to 2006.

In the summer of 2006, Atletico Madrid signed him for 20 million euros, a club record. In 75 appearances for the club, Kún, as he is popularly known, has scored 24 goals, forming a lethal strike partnership with former United hitman, Diego Forlan.

Laurels have not been wanting in Kún Aguero’s case. He was a member of the FIFA Under 20 World Cup winning Argentine team in 2005 and 2007. In the 2007 edition, Kún scored 6 goals, winning the Golden Boot for the most number of goals, as well as the Golden Ball for the tournament’s best player. To put this in perspective, Lionel Messi won both these awards in the 2005 Under 20 World Cup.

Aguero is currently known to be dating Diego Maradona’s daughter, Gianina Maradona.

Arshavin flirts with Arsenal

Andrei Arshavin, who had earlier said that he was only interested in a move to Catalunya, seems to have changed his mind over the past few days. Barcelona were priced out of a move for the Zenit St Petersburg and Russia playmaker, having made an offer in the region of just 15 million euros. This has whipped up Arsenal and Chelsea’s interest in a transfer for the Russian.

If Emmanuel Adebayor’s proposed move to AC Milan materializes, Arsenal would be in the money for launching a transfer bid for Arshavin. The player himself has been flirting rather openly with a move to Arsenal, having declared that he is a fan of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, and that he is “desperate” to join the North London club. Will Arsenal be able to beat Chelsea to Arshavin’s signature?

In some more latest transfer rumours from the Emirates, Arsenal are considering making a move for Liverpool target Gareth Barry from Aston Villa.

Milan back in for Adebayor

Emmanuel AdebayorImage via WikipediaIn transfer news from Arsenal, Emmanuel Adebayor has almost become a want-away for the Gunners! The Londoners who were and are interested in cashing in on the Togolese hitman had initially quoted around 35 million pounds, a sum that prompted even the moneyed Rossoneri to back off from the deal.

However, with there being no takers for that high a sum, the North London club have dropped their price tag. According to Vincenzo Morabito, Arsenal have almost halved their asking price from the 45 million euros that they had quoted initially.

While AC Milan are also in for Ronaldinho, they would prefer Adebayor over the Brazilian. The Arsenal man is in good form, and has more years in him than the waning winger from Barcelona. Also, Milan need a striker who produces goals with greater consistency, someone in the Andriy Shevchenko mould. One of the reasons Milan could not threaten for titles in the 2007-08 season was the inconsitency of their forwards. Pippo Inzaghi could managed only 18 goals in all competitions last season, while Alberto Gilardino, now shipped out to Fiorentina, was dismal with a return of just 9 goals in 40 games!

It is possible that Adebayor’s arrival from Arsenal might mean that Milan might have to end their pursuit of Ronaldinho. And given that Manchester City’s offer for Ronnie of around 25.5 million pounds is higher than Milan’s, expect to see the smiling Brazilian at Eastlands!

Transfer update: Lampard, Drogba and Adebayor set to move

Inter Milan have opened formal negotiations with Chelsea midfielder and Jose Mourinho’s faithful Frank Lampard. The club has sent a fax to Chelsea to begin the process of negotiation. Lampard is in his final year contract with the London club.

Meanwhile Inter’s rival club AC Milan have renewed their interest in premier league strikeforce Didier Drogba and Adebayor. Chelsea’s interest in Ronaldinho and Eto might make way for Drogba to move to Italy, where he might play against his former coach Jose Mourinho. Arsenal are tracking Newcastle forward Martins and Blackburn forward Roque Santa Cruz to replace Adebayor in case he moves.
Brazilian coach Dunga has said Ronaldinho might make a move to AC Milan rather than premier league clubs like Chelsea / Manchester city.

Pompeys look set to have settled a deal with Liverpool for Peter Crouch and are prepared to sell David Nugent, Sunderland might be interested in the striker.

Arsenal might be the landing place for Arshavin after Chelsea seemed to have ended their interest in the Russian midfielder. The arrival of Deco might have convinced Chelsea owner to end this pursuit.
