Chelsea took off in style with a win against Portsmouth in what was Scolari’s first competitive game in charge. Chelsea beat Portsmouth 4-0 in what was a dominating performance through out. Deco and Bosingwa had impressive debut with the former scoring a thunder strike past James. It all started when Joe Cole tapped in to put Chelsea in the lead, followed by an accurate header from Anelka. Lampard scored from the spot to put Chelsea 3-0 and Deco rounded off with a swinging thunder strike.
Manchester United were held 1-1 at Old Trafford by an impressive Newcastle side. Ferguson might want to sign a striker very soon. Giggs and Carrick were injured during the game and might miss couple of weeks.
Winners - Chelsea, Arsenal, Hull, Middlesbrough

Just 8 more days for Premier league kick off and the clubs are trying to form the team for the season. Long awaited Ronaldo saga has come to an end. Yes. Ronaldo is staying at United. Same might be the case with Lampard and Robinho. Scolari has sent out a strong statement saying that money will not be an important part of his plans, rather his squad would be. In the past years foreign clubs have increased the evaluation of players tremendously trying to exploit the buying power of business magnets owning clubs. Chelsea, in Scolari, have got a good replacement for Mourinho.
Sunderland have captured 3 players from Tottenham in what has been a ‘ok’ transfer activity. Roy Keane is expected to bring the French striker Saha from United. Portsmouth seem to have a good front line in Defoe and Peter Crouch. Tottenham and Arsenal are still expecting to sign the Russian playmaker Arshavin. Elsewhere, it has been a quiet transfer activity.

Image via WikipediaIt’s official!
Barcelona supremo Joan Laporta has confirmed that the Catalan club has received bids from AC Milan and Manchester City for star forward Ronaldinho. Laporta has also said that Manchester City’s offer is higher than Milan’s.
If Milan had been in the Champions League this coming season, Ronaldinho’s choice would be rather straightforward. However with the Italians managing only a fifth-place finish in the Serie A last season, there is no lure of European football (unless you belong to that really tiny minority that follows the UEFA Cup).
City meanwhile have shown signs of wanting to break from their cursed mid-table finishes in the Premier League. The appointment of Mark Hughes, and the signing of Brazilian striker Jo, coupled with the vigour that they have showed in the pursuit of Ronaldinho are strong indicators of a willingness to move forward.
Ronnie himself might still want to go to Milan, wanting to link up with star names such as Kaka, Inzaghi and Dida. And it will be down to the Battle of the Premiers. Milan are owned by Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi. Manchester City are owned by Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister of Thailand. Which Premier’s money will go the distance?

Some reports indicate that Real Madrid are preparing to unveil Cristiano Ronaldo on July 7. While the report has to be taken with more than just a pinch of salt, it throws up a couple of interesting questions. Has July 7 been chosen because Cristiano Ronaldo is synonymous with the number 7 jersey - CR7 - that he currently wears at Manchester United?
And what jersey will Ronaldo be given at Real? It cannot be the number 7 jersey, because Raul Gonzalez, Real’s talismanic captain is also a firm favorite with the fans. Or will the Portuguese star get the number 10 jersey, currently worn by Robinho?
On a related note, Wesley Sneijder who is seen as a possible makeweight in the Ronaldo transfer wants to stay put in the Spanish capital. The Dutchman has also expressed hope that Robinho would stay and that Ronaldo would join them too!
Andrei Arshavin who has already asked for a transfer from Zenit St. Petersburg is keen on joining Barcelona. The Russian has unequivocally stated that Barcelona, currently managed by Pep Guardiola, are the club that he has supported all his life, and that it would be a dream move. Arsene Wenger, though, predicts that Arshavin would play in the Premier League or the Italian Serie A, but not the Spanish Primera Liga.
And staying with Barca, Ronaldinho might yet snub a move to Manchester City to join AC Milan. The Brazilian superstar has always been seen as too big for a club like City, but Mark Hughes and Thaksin Shinawatra had expressed confidence that Ronnie would come to Eastlands.
After having brought Reading winger Glen Little to Fratton Park, Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp wants to raid the relegated Royals once again, this time for defender Nicky Shorey.
